The movie Stand by Me was set during 1959, which was a long time ago. The setting was important to the film because it provided the general atmosphere for the story. If it had not been the setting, the kids wouldn’t have had the chance to “naturalize”, to go into nature and experience nature including walking along the train track, crossing a dangerous bridge, and getting eels stuck all over their bodies. Moreover, the railroad tracks provided many scenes that helped the film seem more interesting; if it had been the modern days, they wouldn’t be allowed to walk on the tracks.
In Stand By Me, the theme of friendship is important and is demonstrated through four kids—Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. They called themselves a gang and journeyed together. If it had not been the strong friendship/ bond they had, this story wouldn’t have happened. Those four kids looked out for each other and although at last they “chose different paths”, they weren’t able to have friends like they had when they were little again.

4: Chris was the leader of the group. Under his tough appearance and actions, there is a soft, sensitive guy hiding in his outer shell. Chris had a screwed up family, he did not come from a big popular rich family with good reputations. He came from a family with his parents being drunks and scumbags of the town. He was mistaken many times and was blamed for alot of things just because people thought he would do things like this. His motivation of taking college courses and making himself something rather than turning into a bum like his dad, was mostly effected by his best friend Gordie. He wanted to be in the same class as him, and he wanted to turn into something people thought he would never become. His motivations pushed him and he ended up being a lawyer.

5: Friendship is one of the most important values of life to many people. Many of us revolves our life around friends, doing things with friends, playing with friends, sharing emotions with friends. The movie is based on friendship. They go out all together on a little trip to find a dead body of a boy. They did not have to do that, but I believe that they did it for their friendship. As in they went just for the fun of it, rather than the urge of becoming a hero like they first said. During the trip, they helped each other, ripped off of each other, had fun with each other. Even if they had some fights, they were still best friends at last. The movie is trying to show how important friend's ideas and thoughts could be, and generally how great it is to have friends by your side. Gordie motivated Chris to work for himself and make something out of himself. That is a sign of friendship, and having friends like that would be what everyone dreams for.

2. Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern weren’t happy about their parents because they parents didn’t seem to care about them, so they decided to go on a journey and find a dead body, they wanted to become famous and prove themselves that they are capable of being heroes and prove that they are not useless.

5. Gordie, Christ, Teddy and Vern are best friends, they talk about anything, they feel comfortable when they are around each other, and also they reply on each other. In their friendship, everyone also has a different role. Christ is like the leader of the group; Gordie is like the brain of the group because he is the smartest; Teddy is a madman who fools around. Vern is being more like a coward in this group. I like how Christ takes care of Gordie, because Gordie’s parents never care about him, Christ is being like a brother of Gordie’s throughout the movie.

2. Why did Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and/or Vern need to find the body? Why was this journey important for them?

First of all, these four kids found out that there was a dead body around the railroad at someplace, and nobody had found it. Therefore, they thought that if they found out where the exact location of the dead body, they would be famous. Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern were all came from the families who were not care about them, they were not that important in the families. For example, Gordie’s older brother died few years ago, his parents thought about why was not Gordie died, which means that they didn’t care about him or love him. However, after the journey, they all found out what they were going to do in the future. Just like, Gordie wanted to become a writer and Chris wanted to be a lawyer. According to this journey, I believed that they learned a lot from the friendship.

5. Explain the theme of friendship in Stand By Me.

Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern started their journey about finding the dead body. Actually, they ran away from their families’ problems, they didn’t want to face it. So, they started their own journey, only four of them. During this long journey, they would face many problems, and they had to help each other such as Teddy was going to hit the train, Chris pulled him out of the railroad to save his life. At night, they heard some weird sounds, and each of them was willing to stand out to be the night guard. This journey totally expressed a lot of friendship. They were willing to help or listen to each other, and after the journey, their friendship was stronger than before.

1. There are no female characters, love interests, or characters over age 17. What does this movie say about adolescent boys?
I think the reason thaty there are ne female characters is that this movie is about the friendship and the brotherhood. This movie is about four boys, who are from different families and have different background, decide to find a dead body and start a journey. While they are walking a long journey, they help each other and express their deepest feelings from hearts with each other.

They wanted to feel proud and proved that they have abilities to do such good things.

1. There are no female characters, love interests, or characters over age 17. What does this movie say about adolescent boys?

The lack of things that are characterized/related to puberty/adulthood truly captures the essence of childhood innocence. With the lack of all the problems that come with females, love interests and the daunting responsibility of adulthood, the protagonists Gordie, Chris and Vern, are free to pursue whatever they simply feel like doing which is very much how childhood is, doing things in the moment because you feel like it unlike the path of adulthood where every action taken is considered as part of the bigger picture that is the future. In this case, boys their age like anything that has to do with adventure/danger and thus they go off to look for a dead body without even thinking about necessities like food and possible other factors, simply because they felt like it.

2. Why did Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and/or Vern need to find the body? Why was this journey important for them?

For some reason, being the 12 year old boys they are, the idea of seeing a real life dead body in the flesh instead of on TV or in movies, happens to be the most appealing adventure out there, thus compelled by unknown forces the boys were set on finding that dead body with the side reward of becoming heroes on top of the reward itself of finding an actual corpse. This journey was important for them in the fact that not only was there much bonding involved but the fact that their life endangering experiences (train, leeches, wolves) made them realize the fragility of life that was further reinforced by seeing a real lifeless body. This lesson further reinforced their bonds in friendship because it taught them that life can be taken away at any given moment and thus they did the best to live in the moment during their adventures so that even the fact that they would all go separate ways could not stop that one moment they lived in their lives in the form of a bonding adventure.

1. There are no female characters and love interests in this movie because 12 age boys' mind are still pure and careless. They don't pay too much attention to female. During that ages, I think that friendship is more important than relationship. In this movie, these adolescent boys hang out with only males. The things they want to do are also cute and innocent such as at the beginning of the movie, they all think that they will become famous if they find the dead person. How a cute thought it is! The movie wants to show that 12 age boys lives are quite different than 17 age's and the strongly power of peers.

5. I think that friendship is the main theme of this movie. Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern all leave their home to reach their goal, finding the dead person. Actually they just don't want to face their problems with families. To these boys, maybe they create another new world for themselves in the journey. Because these four boys are the only four people in the journey, they must to help each other such as each of them has to keep awake at night to make sure whether they are safe or not by turns. I believe that they become more mature than before after this trip.

1. I think the movie Stand by Me is trying to show that adolescent boys care more about friendship than their relationship with opposite sex. I believe it is true. People like to have the sense of belonging and to feel bonded with the others. That is why we like to hang out with friends. And that when we were in troubles or felt depress, we will talk to our buddies instead of girlfriends. In front of friends, we don’t need to care about our images and can do whatever we want to, which is not the same if we were with opposite sex.

5. The theme of the movie, friendship, shows that friends are people who you can lean on when you are not strong. In Stand by Me, Gordie and Chris are the best buddies. They comfort and support each other all the time. For example, Chris keeps telling Gordie that he is a great writer and is going to be successful, even though Gordie’s father doesn’t show any support toward the idea.

2. Why did Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and/or Vern need to find the body? Why was this journey important for them?
At the beginning, Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern wanted to find the body because they thought that they could be famous after they found the dead body. However, the true reason for them in their deepest mind was to escape from their lives. All of them were facing issues of family neglecting, diffidence, and disrespectful and ignorance of the society because of their family background. Hence, they want to escape from their worries. This journey was important to them because they got the chances to face their problems. Moreover, they found the purposes of their lives after the journey.
5. Explain the theme of friendship in Stand By Me.
Friendship was the central concept of the movie Stand By Me. The whole story was told by Gordie’s flashback, because of the funeral of Chris. In the last line of this movie, Gordie wrote in his book that the he never had friends like he had in 12 years old any more. Therefore, from here the audiences can see the importance and eternity of the friendship. These memories of his friends have stayed with him for his rest of his life. This is the most valuable and cherished part about friendship that it will never varnish as the time goes on.
